The Setup Wizard does not see my HD-720 on the network, what can I do?
When I try to run the Setup Wizard, it tells me that the HD-720 cannot be found on my network. I connected the HD-720 to the router via an ethernet cable, but it still doesn't see it. How can I get the device to be seen?

- NOTE: We suggest using a Web Browser that supports tabbed browsing (such as Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer 8) for using this article. This will allow you to hold the ctrl (control) button on your keyboard and clicking the link to open the hyperlink in a new tab instead of a new window (or instead of replacing your current page). After you finish working on the new tab, you can close it with the keyboard command ctrl + w (control + w) and be back to this article.
If you receive this error or a similar error (essentially that the device cannot be found on the network), try the following steps:
- Wireless Card issues
NOTE: Some wireless cards have been found to have intermittent issues with successfully completing the Setup Wizard. We have seen the issue occur with some wireless N cards, such as the Intel 5300 series.
To test if this is the issue:
- Quit the Setup Wizard.
- Disconnect from your wireless network or turn off your wireless card
- Connect an ethernet cable between your router and your computer.
- After you get an IP address, re-start the Setup Wizard and test your issue again
NOTE: Even if you are not using an Intel 5300 series wireless networking card, you may want to try a direct ethernet connection anyways to make sure that other wireless issues (such as Wireless Network Interference) are not impacting the Setup Wizard.
The rest of this article assumes you are still connected to the router via ethernet
- Reduce your HD-720 Current Setup to a bare bones setup
The Setup Wizard will actually guide you through when you should be connecting cables. If you have pro-actively connected cables where they should go, you may want to try these steps first if you have had issues with running the Setup Wizard. This is only for your initial setup, and should not be necessary for future running of the HD-720 unless you have Hard Reset the device.
- Turn off your TV if it is on.
- Disconnect all cables from the HD-720 EXCEPT:
- The Power Cable
- The Ethernet Cable
- Re-test the issue in the Setup Wizard
- If the device is seen by the Setup Wizard now, keep your cables un-plugged until directed to re-connect them by the Setup Wizard.
- If the device is still not seen, leave the cables unplugged for following the remainder of this article until you are able to run the Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard will inform you when you should connect the cables again.
and
(Don't forget to disconnect the cables connected to the front of the HD-720 as well.)
- Power cycle the device
- Unplug power cable from the back of the HD-720
- Wait 20 seconds.
- Plug the power cable back into the HD-720.
- Wait for the HD-720 to finish booting (this can take 2-3 minutes)
- Scan for the device again in the Setup Wizard.
- The Ethernet cable you are currently using is bad, or the port you have it plugged into on your router is bad or off.
- Try using a different cable to connect your HD-720 to your Home Router.
- If you have tried a different cable and have the same issue, try connecting the HD-720 to a different port on the back of your Home Router (one that you know works, preferably).
NOTE: Some cables may allow the HD-720 to be seen, but not configured.
NOTE: Some routers allow you to turn off one or all of the ethernet ports ability to communicate. To check if your router supports this, and whether this type of feature is enabled, contact your IT Administrator for the network.
- An error or other issue occured with a previous setup attempt, and the HD-720 setup is either wrong or the configuration file has become corrupt.
Example: If you were able to run the setup wizard previously, but were forced to restart the wizard after clicking Next on the Make it Yours page (such as taking over 20 minutes to update), you will most likely need hard reset your HD-720:
Hard Reset the HD-720
- Follow the steps in our Hard Reset article
- After the reset completes, you should be re-run the Setup Wizard (the article goes over this as well). It should begin seeing the device
If you complete this article and still have issues configuring the HD-720 in the Setup Wizard, please post your issue on our Support Forums. We will take a look at your specific setup and see what is causing the issue.
When you make a post, make sure you include the following in it:
- Type of router you are using
- Security software
- Version of Windows you are running (Or OS X version and Windows version running through your virtualization software)(Boot Camp is not currently supported)
- whether you have completed all of the above steps
There may be other questions that we or our other users ask you when you post, but this is an excellent start.

The setup wizard cannot find my Spawn HD-720 on my network.
I see that the HD-720 has gotten an IP address through my router config so I am pretty sure it is connected correctly.
I am running on Windows 7 x64 and I've tried launching the wizard as administrator as well as normal user. I also allowed the application to communicate through the windows firewall by answering the windows prompt.
What troubleshooting steps can I take to make sure the Setup Wizard can find my HD-720?

Try the above steps for this type of issue.

Could you guys please amend this post to direct to the Mac/Parallels thread. That thread solved my problem with the setup wizard as I had to change my Parallels network connection to bridge mode. This was after several evenings of frustration. After getting my HD-720 configured and working, I'm very happy with it. Cheers.
