External adaptor / Xbox 360 only left side sound issue

I emailed this to support on May 25 but haven't received a response, so I thought I would post it here:

I am having an issue with Spawn Player sound. While connecting to my Xbox 360 (plugged into the external adapter), I am only getting sound out of the left speaker / headphone of my PC. This is the case for two different PCs (both running Win7 x64). Also, I unplugged the red / white cables into the Spawn box and connected them directly to a headset and verified the sound of the Xbox 360 is indeed both L and R. I went through the spawn hardware setup again, which also didn't alleviate the issue. Finally, the sound is fine when I switch over to my PS3 which is on the main box adapter.

Any assistance you could provide would be great.

Thank you!

    Brian,

I am sorry to hear this is going on. I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my laptop and have not seen this type of issue occur. Even more perplexing is that the sound is working correctly when you have the PS3 stream to the computer.

Since it is working fine with an headset, and the PS3 is working fine, I would like for you to try the following. Disconnect the PS3 from its' section and connect the Xbox 360 there. The re-run the setup wizard and provision the 360 to the new component section (you can attach the PS3 to where the Xbox 360 was as well). This test is to check the audio ports that the Xbox 360 are working or not.

Let me know the results and we will take it from there.

    Jonathan,

Thanks for the response. I tried swapping consoles between the external and internal adapters (including a hard reset of the HD-720) and it seems to have fixed the issue.

However, with the PS3 on the external adapter I keep getting the "failed to initiate codec handler' until it times out. Even though the PS3 is already on, it was also not seeing the input signal as well. I am using the stock PS2/3 component cable and the passthrough is working (I can see the signal on my tv).

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Bri0528,

What resolution do you have the PS3 set to push? The codec handler relates to the video itself, whereas the External Spawn Gamepad Adapters only handle turning the console on and/or the gamepad connection for the attached/paired Video Game Console.

If the resolution is set too high (such as 1080i or 1080p), passthrough will work, but you won't be able to initiate a stream. We'll standby for an update on the resolution you are pushing.

    Jonathan,
Yes, I've confirmed it's set at 720p (and not 1080i/p).

As a sidebar, even on the internal adapter and Xbox 360 the HD-720 has a rough time of starting it up remotely. It will sense the Xbox is not on, and then send the IR signal which turns on the machine. Then it still won't see the input signal and then send another IR command and shuts off the Xbox. It seems to do better with the Xbox already on. I also have the Xbox set on 720p, using the OEM cables to the HD-720.

I love the system for the most part and think it's great. It's just that right now having to fiddle around with everything to even start a play session is a real negative.

If you need any logs sent or more info please let me know.

    Bri0528,

Can you email me the system messages for this? I want to see if there is any oddity within them that may give us some insight on why your console would be turning off/on with the adapter. I also want to make sure there is no quick fix for what you have going on before we start looking into more invasive means to rectifying your HD-720 issue.
